Ultimate Guide To Playing Fishers of Men Game

June 7, 2022 by Casey Hayes Leave a Comment

Fishers-of-Men-game

People use the term “fishers of men” to define Jesus’ first disciples’ mission. The “Fishers of men” game can help reinforce the lesson about this bible story.

To play the game, start by numbering the bible serves and fish. Let kids catch the fish and ask them to repeat the verse based on the number of fish they get.

This post will give you step-by-step instructions on playing the game. You can also learn how to teach your kids to play the game easily.

Let’s read on to discover!

Things To Prepare

To begin, prepare some biblical scriptures to hang on the board or print out for the students to see.

This activity works for recalling the bible lesson that your kids have learned. So, before starting, make sure that they know and understand the story.

You can tell the story to them or show them this video:

Then, gather the following materials:

  • Fishing rods

You can make these rods yourself or ask your kids to do so.

Prepare a set of DIY fishing rods, and each set has a string, a stick, and a paperclip. Make sure to hand out one set for a kid.

  • Paper fish

You can print the picture on paper and cut them out. Please note that the number of fish should be equal to or more than the number of the bible verses.

Kids love art and craft

How To Play Fishers of Men Game?

The “Fishers of men” game aims to help kids recall the lesson. Hence, there is no requirement or even the same idea for it.

We will discuss the most common version right here.

Game rules

The rule of this game is simple: catch fish and read the bible serves.

Each fish and verse has a number on it. When the kid catches a fish, he needs to find the matching number of the verse and read it aloud.

Step by step

Write one number for the bible verses you have printed, from 1 to so on, based on how many verses you use.

Then, write one number on the fish paper to match your chosen Bible verses.

Attach a magnet to every fish’s mouth.

Tie the stick to the string to make the fishing pole.

Stick the paper clip to the end of the string to make a hook.

When a kid catches the fish, he will need to find the number written on it and select the same number of the bible verse.

If he can pull it off, he will read the verse again and continue his fishing.

You can divide the kids into two groups to make the game competitive.

When a member succeeds in catching fish and reading the verses, the fish belongs to the team. In the end, the team with more spoils will win.

This fisherman’s game will go faster if you have some volunteers, and the children can catch more fish and, as a result, repeat more verses.

You can try to use phrases that the kids are more familiar with but don’t remember by heart for this activity.

To make the game more exciting, place a bed sheet in an entryway and have the children fish over it, not knowing which species they will catch.

Also, try to use items other than fish, such as boots, seashells, sharks, jars, a sunken boat, etc.

They can try fishing indoors

The Purpose Of The Game

Games come with fun. Yet, with this idea, your kids have more than just pleasure because you are helping them to learn lessons.

Learning the lesson

The children have a wonderful time playing games. When you can make it relevant to their life, it helps reinforce the ideas you covered in the initial Bible story session.

The kids can also recreate the passage with the toys, which is another fantastic technique to scaffold learning.

Entertainment

Kids don’t like staring at books or paper to learn something by heart.

They like running, playing, and laughing. So, instead of asking to sit at their desk, allow them to move.

Teaching through games helps people relax without realizing that they are learning.

You ask the kids to repeat the verses, which is an opportunity for them to recall the lesson. They can memorize it better because they are learning it under no pressure.

Children want to have fun learning time

How To Teach Kids To Play Games?

The best way to instruct kids to play any game is through modeling. You do first, and they will follow you.

So, start by reading the bible verses one by one. Then, make a fishing rod for yourself, and the students can make one.

After that, show them how to fish, check the number, find it on the bible paper and read the verse.

Remember to do everything slowly so that everyone can catch up with you. For clearer instructions, invite one student to model for the whole group.

Conclusion

“Fisher of men game” is an easy, interesting game that reinforces the lesson you have taught. Kids also find it a great time to have fun with their friends.

Hopefully, the guide we have shared can help with your lesson plan. If you know any ideas, don’t hesitate to share them with us. Thank you for reading!
